Anna, I’m just about to set out on my first tile project, using 3/4″ Sicis transparent mosaic glass tiles, in a vertical brickset pattern of blocks of a few related colors, for a kitchen backsplash! And what a coincidence–our cabinets are the very kind that are on the home page of this site–the Ikea Hallarum — our tiles will be *slightly* smaller than those, but I was advised to use hardibacker, not plywood, as Tom said.
When it comes to lining up blocks of tiny tiles, so that they are nice and square, does anyone have any suggestions? That’s the part that’s scaring me at present. How can I line these things up? They’re face mounted on paper. How are you going to handle this, Anna? Or are you going free-form? What size tiles are you using?
